How do I find the stone / rock carving? Where can I find the class lessons in Shreveport, Louisiana?

I'd like to try carving in stone, but I do not know what I am doing - is there a way to find local sculptors for classes? I've tried local schools, etc, without luck. In addition, you can buy soap and alabaster, etc. online and pay a ton of shipping, but is there any rock that might lead locally and buy (or dig myself)?

There are stores in Metairie and Lafayette rock that they can sell to different types of stone in practice. Probably closer than the others did not know. They can also tell what kind of native stone in your work area and where to find it. Try also serpentina. If you want, you can work your way up the marble is quite unforgiving. Most good art stores you can sell carving tools. The Red River Sculpture Society includes some sculptors in Louisiana, and should be able to direct some of the lessons. They have a good website.
